Heavy rains: Son dies, Mother severely injured as their damaged house collapsed
Coimbatore: Saraswati (55) is a resident of Haripuram, Siddhapudur, Coimbatore. She has been living with her third son Rajasekaran (30) since her husband died and both are construction labourers.
They have been living in a dilapidated, tiled house that is over 40 years old.
The old house was further damaged due to the heavy rains on the 6th of January. Authorities have reportedly arranged an alternative dwelling for people of 48 houses in the areas as the building was damaged. It seems that no one went to the place arranged by the government as the rain had stopped. The Corporation has continually alerted people to get away from dilapidated houses.
The house collapsed when Rajasekar and his mother Saraswati were asleep at 11.30 last night. Rajasekar succumbed to his injuries and Saraswati, who sustained a head injury, is being treated at the emergency ward of the Coimbatore Government Hospital. Kattoor police are investigating the incident.
