207 houses built on encroached lands near Muthannan Kulam cleared!

Corporation Officials todaycleared the 207 houses built on the encroached lands near Muthannan Lake.


Coimbatore: Muthannan Kulam and the areas near it are to be developed under the Smart City Project. Due to the development project, the Coimbatore Corporation had sent out a notice which orders for immediate evacuation of 3000 houses built on the encroached lands near the Muthannan Kulam.

People who had their houses in the area are being relocated to apartments built by slum clearance board in the areas of Kovaipudur, Keeranatham, Vellalore, Ukkadam and Malumichampatti.

Following the corporation notice, more than 2500 members had vacated their houses to their allocated flats.



Later the plans to evacuate the area was processed by the corporation.

Meanwhile remaining members of the 384 houses which were built on encroached lands near Muthannan Kulam refused to vacate. To counter this corporation officials stopped the electricity supply to the area. After this the remaining people in the area moved to their allocated flats built by the slum clearance board.



The corporation officials today demolished 207 houses built on the encroached area and said that the demolishing works in the area will be finished soon.
