Women crowd the courthouse after photos of the accused with AIADMK leaders leaked on social media.
Coimbatore: The horrific Pollachi sexual harassment incident which happened in the year 2019 created a national level panic and disturbance for everyone mainly women. With a complaint given by a college student, Thirunavukarasu, Rishwanth alias Sabari Rajan, Vasantha Kumar, Sateesh and Manivannan were arrested.
With high pressure from politicians and people in power the police department failed to take quick action. After continuous protests and demonstrations by National Women's party and National parties the case was transferred from the state police to CBI investigation.
CBI officials have filed chargesheet upon the 5 accused and investigation was going at the Coimbatore district court. After two years now, 3 AIADMK party members were arrested by the CBI authorities.
CBI officials have now arrested AIADMK Pollachi student body secretary Arulanandam and other members Heran Paul and Babu for their involvement in the horrific Pollachi incident.
Arrested members were produced at the Coimbatore district women's court. CBI officials said that the arrest was made with the confession made by the 3 women affected by this incident.
Judge Nandhini Devi who was present at the hearing, allowed the police to take custody of the 3 members till 20th of this month.
In another incident pictures of Arulanandam, one of the 3 arrested members who were involved in this horrific incident was virally shared on social media.
In the pictures Arulanandam can be seen closely with AIADMK Minister SP Velumani, Central Minister Nitin Gadkari and Tamilnadu Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman.
Accused Heran Paul and Babu were seen closely in a photo with Pollachi Achipatti panchayat head Ranganathan. With the news of the pictures being virally spread, AIADMK party management has now removed Arulanandam from the party.
Meanwhile Women's union and DMK women's wing members gathered at the Coimbatore courthouse and started to protest to sentence the accusts with maximum charges.
They also protested that the state and central government are trying to protect the accused.
Police officials then tried to arrest the women involved in the protest which created panic at the courthouse.
Police officials then arrested the protestors involuntarily and sent Arulanadham, Babu and Heran Paul to the central jail under heavy police protection.
