Two people, including a boy killed in a road accident in Coimbatore
In a tragic accident in Singanallur here, two people, including a boy, were killed on the spot, on Tuesday late evening, police said.
According to reports, Balasubramanian (55), a resident of Coimbatore, along with grandson Athavan was on the way to a hospital in Singanallur where his wife was admitted.
Last evening, when Balasubramaniam along wih his grandson tried to cross the road to go to a bank opposite to the hospital, they were hit by a car reportedly heading from Kannampalayam. The same car later banged on Sathyaraj (20), a resident of Ondipudur, who was walking on the sideways. Later, the speeding car also collided with another car and another two-wheeler, reports say.
In the accident Athavan and Sathyaraj died on the spot, while a grievously injured Balasubramanian was rushed to government hospital for treatment.
The man who drove the car has been identified as Ramesh (42). Preliminary reports say that he was on the way to Coimbatore from Kannampalayam along with his wife and son. And, he had mistakenly pushed the accelerator instead of brakes and caused the accident.
Upon receiving information, Coimbatore East Traffic Investigation Police led by Inspector Muthu Mani rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. A case has been registered against Ramesh.
