Tirupur: Contract sanitary workers in Tirupur are boycotting work demanding payment of their outstanding salaries. More than 500 contract sanitary workers are employed under a private company in 30 of the 60 wards in Tirupur Corporation. Most of the workers are from North India. These contract sanitary workers are paid a monthly salary of Rs 9,000.

The contracting company has been delaying payments for the last 2 months without paying the contract sanitary workers. Following this, the affected sanitary workers refused to come to work today and went on strike saying they would return to work only if the outstanding salary was paid immediately.
