People of Pollachi participated in a protest after capturing trucks which were going to dump sewage wastes on the roads.
Coimbatore: Trucks which were trying to dump sewage waste in Anuparpalayalam near Pollachi were captured by the locals who then went on a protest.
Due to heavy traffic in the main areas of Pollachi, road expansion project has been initiated by the government. This road expansion project which has now commenced on Marapet area on the Pollachi - Udumalaipet road and the contract workers are now tasked with clearing the waste settlements on the road.
Waste that is being evacuated from the Pollachi - Udumalaipet road are taken in trucks towards Anuparpalayalam near Pollachi - Dharapuram road and are later dumped on the roads.
When a truck collapsed without being able to carry the waste load, locals of the area gathered around the trucks and captured them which came with sewage wastes ready to be dumped.
Police officials from the Nekmam police station arrived at the scene and after further questioning found the waste which were brought in the trucks are from the cleanings undertaken at the Pollachi - Udumalaipet road.
Public who captured the trucks got involved in an argument with the police officials and urged them to take action on the truck drivers and the contractors involved in this.
Local public also complained at the police department and said that all wastes including medical, meat and building wastes are being dumped in their area.
Later Nekmam Police officials filed a complaint against truck drivers Velusamy, Sivakumar and Vadivelu and took them for further investigation. Further the public of the locality also requested the police officials to go on continuous patrol to prevent further dumping of wastes.
