Farmers of Tirupur and Coimbatore district return pongal gifts to protest against the 4-decade old pending Anamalaiyaru project

Farmers from districts of Coimbatore and Tirupur return the 2500 rupees and other pongal gifts given by the government of Tamilnadu.


Tirupur: Anamalaiaru-Nallaru plan, a major water resource has been on hold for over 40 years. This plan is supposed to solve the water scarcity issues of farmers and general public in the districts of Tirupur and Coimbatore.

As a process of reminding the government to finish the project sooner, farmers belonging to the districts of Coimbatore and Tirupur went as a protest to the district collector office to return the ₹2500 along with the other pongal gifts given by the government of Tamilnadu.



Police officials at the collector office denied the farmer's request to enter to which the farmers sat down there and continued their protest.



Later the police officials agreed and let the farmers inside. On visiting the collector's office the farmers gave back the pongal gift of 2500 rupees along with other welfare food products and requested the government to complete the Anamalaiaru project soon without any further delay.

The farmers also said that they will go on an indefinite hunger strike from 8th Februaryif the government fails to take immediate action post the request made today.
