Tirupur: Tamil Desiya Katchi has filed a petition with the District Collector's Office demanding permission for cockfighting in the Kongu region during the Tamil festival days.



Tirupur: Tamil Desiya Katchi has filed a petition with the District Collector's Office demanding permission for cockfighting in the Kongu region during the Tamil festival days.



Thaipongal festival is celebrated in a very special way in the Kongu region. Various sports including Silambattam and Uriyattam are celebrated in honor of the heritage of the Tamils.



They said that cockfighting also reflects Tamil heritage but has been banned to be used for gambling. Tamil Desiya Katchi has hence submitted a petition to the District Collector's Office with a rooster, insisting that the traditional game of cockfighting should not be banned and that the cockfighting should be allowed to celebrate the Pongal festival on Thaipongal and Tamil festivals.
