Coimbatore: Farmer fined Rs 50,000 for illegally erecting electric fence at forest boundary. The Deputy Director of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve received a tip-off that an electric fence has been set up illegally in a farm near the forest boundary near Sethumadai under the Pollachi Forest Reserve. Following this, the forest department led by Pollachi forest ranger Pukalenthi conducted an inspection there. It was then discovered that an electric fence had been erected in a farm adjoining the Pothamadai forest.
Following this, during the investigation conducted by the forest department, Karthikeyan (28), son of Thangavel of Semanampathy village, leased the garden of Shaju from the Irattaimadai of Kerala and started farming. It was revealed that he had illegally set up an electric fence around the forest boundary there. Karthikeyan, who had leased the estate, was charged and fined Rs. 50,000
