Tourist arrivals have increased in Valparai, Coimbatore district. As a result, a number of hostels have sprung up in the Valparai Rottikadai, Solaiyar Dam and Tea Estate areas. The District Collector has warned that the hostels must obtain permission to renovate and rebuild existing buildings in the Valparai area. But in Valparai only a few are running hostels with proper permission.
Following this, a consultative meeting was held with the hostel owners at the Valparai Tahsildar Office under the chairmanship of the Tahsildar of Valparai Raja. By the end of February, all hostels must have a public building license. Raja has advised that the hostel buildings of the erring cottage owners will be locked and sealed. The meeting was attended by Raja, VAO Vijay Amirtaraj and hostel owners.
