We did not send our members deliberately to the Grama Sabha meeting; Stalin will pay for the attack on a woman - Minister SP Velumani

Coimbatore: At a meeting of the DMK's Grama Sabha meeting held at Devarayapuram in the Thondamuthur assembly constituency in Coimbatore yesterday, a woman named Poongodi, a member of AIADMK, created a ruckus and was expelled.

She incidentally only asked one irrelevant question as to why a Grama Sabha should be held and kept on shouting the same thing over and over again. Videos of her talking to AIADMK ministers after the ruckus and police trying to set her into admission have been viral on social media

Following this, the woman said that she was attacked by a group of DMK men and that she was injured. The DMK party members are accusing her ruckus of being a deliberate conspiracy by the AIADMK. DMK's RS Bharathi also lodged a complaint with the Chennai DGP yesterday.

Home Minister SB Velumani spoke to reporters last night and expressed his condolences to the woman who was allegedly attacked by DMK volunteers. He said, “DMK leader Stalin has actually held a public meeting claiming that it is a village council meeting. A political stage had been set up in front of a 2,000-year-old Perumal temple in the Thondamuthur area.”

Also, he criticized “Stalin for attacking a downtrodden woman with thugs without answering the question she asked. Noting that this was a bad act, the minister said the frenzy was reprehensible.

This is what will happen if the DMK comes to power. Stalin must have responded to this attack. Five people have been attacked by the DMK and action will be taken against the attackers.

We did not deliberately send our members to that meeting, and we have no such vile intention. The only reason we could not save them from the attack was because they did not tell us when going for the meeting.”

Ready to resign if corruption is proved

As already stated, the minister questioned whether DMK leader Stalin was ready to resign if the allegations of corruption were proven wrong and that DMK leader Stalin was the "king of corruption".

Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy Bhaktiman

Minister SP Velumani said that “RS Bharathi and Dayanidhimaran have already spoken in a vile manner against the downtrodden people and he warned that they would learn a lesson if they were involved in series of such attacks. But if you see our Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy is a devotee and one who respects women”
