85 people, including staff members of ITC Grand Chola in Chennai test positive for Covid-19 in last two weeks


: Chennai: About 85 people, including staff members of ITC Grand Chola in Guindy, Chennai were tested positive for COVID-19 since December 15 last year. This is the second cluster reported in the city after IIT-Madras reported 200 cases in December 2020.

“After one staff member was tested positive on December 15, a total of 609 samples have been collected till now and 85 are found to be positive. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has advised saturation testing of all the residents of the hotel,” State Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.

According to Joint Commissioner of Health S Divyadharshini, "All patients who tested positive were isolated. They were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms. While some of them have been discharged, the health condition of others are stable."

Official reports also confirmed that they will conduct saturation testing at all the luxury hotels in Chennai and advised all hotels to strictly follow the SOPs issued by the government.
