Forest officials struggle sending a weak elephant into the forest area in Mudumalai

The forest officials are facing troubles sending this elephant into the forest as it comes out to the road many times during a single day.


The Nilgiris: An elephant from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve was badly hurt on it's back. The forest officials treated the wound and sent it back to the reserve forest area with the help of Kumki elephants.



This male elephant has now come out if the Pokabum forest to the Masinagudi - Ooty road and stopped the vehicles on the road. This caused traffic in the area and vehicles were almost waiting for long hours for the elephant to get back into the forest.

The forest officials are facing troubles sending this elephant into the forest as it comes out to the road many times during a single day.

When asked about this incident to Forest Officer Kandan - who was monitoring the elephants activity by asking forest guards to patrol it's movement. He said that the elephant has only been coming out to the roads post surgery and that it hasn't harmed or attacked any public or their vehicles on the road. He also said that the forest officials have requested the public to give a call when they see the elephant and to refrain themselves from giving the elephant any food or trying to attack the elephant as it's a punishable offence.
