Textile City battled the pandemic successfully, TN Health Minister at Flower Shower event of Coimbatore Vizha

Coimbatore: Delivering the special address at the Flower Shower event of the 13th edition of the Coimbatore Vizha, Dr.C.Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Tamil Nadu lauded the efforts put in by the health workers of the city-based Government ESI Medical College and Hospital and the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital in treating COVID- 19 patients. 



“The number of COVID-19 patients were  in hundreds a few months ago. However, today in our State, this number has dropped to single digit. Thanks to the combined efforts of the head of our State, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and the administration departments of each district who have worked as a team in fighting the virus", he said delivering in his address at the event.  

Seconding him was S P Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme who said “I am happy to be given the opportunity to show my gratitude for the health line workers of the ESI hospital and GH. We are fortunate that our CM had sanctioned enough funds to Coimbatore district to deal with the pandemic. The CM visited various districts in person and held several rounds of talks with the health minister and district officials from various departments to understand the specific needs of each district in dealing with the pandemic."

He added that as an outcome of such meticulous discussions, Amma Mini Clinics were launched in several districts to benefit the public. "Coimbatore is a safe city today, thanks to the medical workers and officials from other departments who have worked as a team in the tough times,” told the Minister.



During the occasion, a helicopter showered flower petals on the ESI Hospital campus, as a sign of gratitude towards the medical staff who worked tirelessly in 2020 to combat the novel Coronavirus. Also on the occasion, COVID-19 warriors from the city were recognised with a memento for putting service above self during the pandemic.



As many as 13 individuals were recognised at the Flower Shower function organised at the ESI Hospital campus this afternoon. 



Flower Shower was the inaugural event of the 13th edition of the Coimbatore Vizha. Members of Young Indians (Yi), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), partnering organisations, ADMK MLA Amman K. Arjunan, K Rajamani, Coimbatore District Collector,  Kumaravel Pandian, Commissioner, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC), Dr. A Nirmala, Dean of ESI Hospital, Coimbatore among others participated in the event. Song of Coimbatore, Gratitude Wall and Wings of Change were launched at the event.
