Rs 28 crore TASMAC sales reported in Coimbatore region on New Year's Eve.


: On the eve of New Year, the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) made sales to the tune of Rs 28 crore in the Coimbatore Zone, comprising of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode and Tirupur. 

In a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus and the fear of the new mutant strain of the virus, the Tamil Nadu government imposed strict ban to celebrate New Year at hotels, resorts and liquor outlets. Especially,pubs in hotels, TASMACs and private clubs were ordered to shit down operations by 10 PM.

Owing to the restrictions, massive crowds was witnessed across majority of TASMACs across the city and suburban areas. In Coimbatore district, liquor was sold for Rs 12.78 crore in a single day on Thursday. In total, liquor sales in the region were reported at Rs 28 crore.

Briefing on the sale, a TASMAC official informed that "There are a total of 294 TASMAC outlets in Coimbatore district.For administrative purposes, TASMAC management is divided into Coimbatore North and South. There are 158 Tasmac stores functional in North and 136 in South."

Of this, Rs 7 crore 36 lakh of liquor was sold in Coimbatore North and Rs 5 crore 42 lakh in South Coimbatore,yesterday. Overall, in the Coimbatore region, which includes Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode and Tiruppur, liquor sales on Thursday touched Rs 28 crore in a single day, he added.
