Female inspector and constable arrested for extorting Rs 1 lakh from former cannabis dealer: Rs 67,000 seized during raid

Coimbatore: Female inspector and constable arrested for extorting Rs 1 lakh from former ganja dealer and Rs 67,000 seized during raid.

A female inspector and eight others have been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to register a case against a person who sold ganja. 67 thousand rupees were confiscated during the search conducted on them. According to the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Police, Vijayakumar and his wife Maheshwari is from Bhavani in Erode district and it seems that Vijayakumar has been selling ganja for the past few years and later he has left the crime and was working as a building supervisor. Last week, the Narcotics Division police allegedly asked Vijayakumar to pay them a bribe of one lakh rupees so that he would not file a ganja case against him.

Though he said that he had stopped selling ganja the police intimidated him asking for bribes. Frightened by this, Vijayakumar allegedly paid a bribe of Rs 30,000 to Inspector Sarojini and constable of the Narcotics Division in Ganapati, Coimbatore the day before yesterday. But he did not have the money to pay the remaining 70 thousand and thus asked his wife Maheshwari to pawn her jewellery. As she refused to give the necklace on of his relative advised him to lodge a complaint with the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Police. Following this the couple lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Police.

Following this, the anti-corruption and vigilance officer handed over Rs 70,000 laced with chemicals to Vijayakumar and when he handed over the money to Inspector Sarojini and constable Ramasamy. Anti-corruption and vigilance police, who were in hiding at the time, arrested the two. After that, when the Anti-Corruption and vigilance Police conducted an inch-by-inch search at the Narcotics Division office, an unaccounted amount of Rs. 67,100 was confiscated. The investigation revealed that the two arrested had already extorted money from Vijayakumar three times in the past.
