Coimbatore: Probably for the very first time, New Year celebrations will be a low key affair across the globe. With Covid-19 pandemic still not under control, government's have announced to cut down all new year celebrations leaving people, especially party goers disappointed.
Back here in Coimbatore, District Collector K Rajamani has issued stern orders to avoid hosting new year parties, street gatherings etc and ordered to close down all hotels and bars by 10 PM of December 31. However, a majority of star hotels in Coimbatore will have their doors open to guests for a lavish dinner for New Year’s Eve.
Hospitality industry takes a hard hit due to a toned down New Year
Hence, the word “celebration” does not find its place in the dictionary this year as the evening will be a sober affair. Amid the pandemic, welcoming the New Year will be a toned down this year in the textile city. With the state government putting in place restrictions to celebrate New Year, the hospitality industry is hard hit.
Professionals in the sector and industry experts echo the sentiments that the impact of the COVID pandemic is far worse than that of demonetisation.
Star hotels in the city will have their doors open to guests till 10 pm only. No count down, no cake cutting and no celebrations this year. Instead, guests will be treated with lavish buffer dinner, but with strict Covid protocols in place.
The Residency Towers
“With over hundred items in our menu, I’d like to introduce our New Year's Eve buffet with live counters serving a whole range of breads, pastas, short eats to relish. From starters to desserts, the buffet will offered at "The Pavillion". And, at "Chin Chin" we would be offering special oriental cuisine. As per Covid norms, the buffet will end by 10pm", said Charles Fabian, General Manager of The Residency Towers, Coimbatore.
Taj Vivanta
Also expecting a family crowd this year is Taj Vivanta located in Race Course Coimbatore. “No celebrations this year, makes it the perfect time to bond with family over some good food. A non-alcoholic buffet will be served this year at the hotel’s coffee shop. However, guests can place orders for drinks that will be served at their table.” a source from Vivanta Coimbatore said.
ITC Welcomhotel
A recent addition to Coimbatore's hospitality industry by ITC groups, Welcomhotel is all set to serve delicacies to match the mood of the New Year Eve’s buffet. "At ITC WelcomHotel, safety of our guests is our priority. We have introduced our programme WeAssure and we follow the highest safety standards at our property. To be honest, our guests are cooperative and we are happy that our staff and guests are safe and secure.” Erin Louis, General Manager, ITC WelcomHotel, Coimbatore.
Hotel Aloft
Also, serving a lavish spread to welcome 2021 will be the coffee shop at Hotel Aloft. “We are expecting a family crowd this time. The hotel adheres to all Covid restrictions and promise a safe place to dine for the customers. Our coffee shop has a normal capacity of 65 pax, however, we will accommodate only 35 persons at one go", said Mohammed Feroz Khan, General Manager of Aloft Coimbatore.
Gokulam Park
Bytes 24*7, the in-house restaurant of Gokulam Park on Avinashi road is an another option for those who wish to enjoy a long drive before and post dinner. This hotel is also serving its special New Year Eve’s buffet between 7 pm and 10 pm.
The countdown for New Year has begun. Those who are associated with the hospitality industry in the cotton city are hoping for the silver lining amid the dark clouds.
