Coimbatore: Corporation officials begin the demolition work of mosques and temples in Majid Colony, Ukkadam Coimbatore.
Over 400 families who lived on the encroached lands of Majid Colony were offered flats to live in Kovaipudur and Vellalore by the Slum Clearance Board authorities.
Once the houses had been allotted for the area people the area had been demolished before 2 years by the Corporation officials.

However places of worship like Amman temples, Madurai Veeran temple, Vinayagar temple and mosques located in the area were kept from being demolished.
Talks regarding the demolition of the places of worship were discussed between the temple, mosque organisers and the corporation and the demolition works have been started now as both of them agreed to it.
When asked about this a corporation official said that a final decision was made to demolish the places of worship after discussion with the members of both the temple and the mosque. Based on the acceptance the demolition works have commenced now and will be completed shortly.
