Coimbatore: Roadside vendors request to renew identification cards before state assembly elections!

Roadside vendors of Coimbatore have requested the corporation officials to renew the roadside vendors identification cards before the onset of the upcoming legislative elections in Tamilnadu.

Coimbatore Corporation has over 6,000 registered roadside vendors and over 12,000 unregistered roadside vendors. The corporation officials earlier issued identification cards to the registered street vendors which has been expired for many years now.

Because of this the roadside vendors are struggling to get a bank loan. Worried roadside vendors are now requesting the corporation officials to re-issue the identification cards before the upcoming legislative assembly elections.

When asked about this issue, Mani, President of the Coimbatore district roadside vendors association said that " The Corporation should immediately issue new identification cards to the existing members as the roadside vendors have still not recovered with loss during Covid-19 lockdown."

He also said that " The central government has announced Rs.10,000 special loans to the roadside vendors and the corporation officials have helped us by setting up special camps to register for this fund online. But since out identification cards issued by the city corporation has expired certain vendors are being denied loans from certain banks."

Mani, President of the Coimbatore district roadside vendors association also said that the corporation authorities must issue the identification cards earlier before new guidelines are announced by the election commission regarding the upcoming assembly elections.

He also said that these identification cards will help them in their protection and requested the corporation officials to re-issue the identification cards quickly.
