Elephant kills woman working at a tea estate in Valparai!

Woman tragically killed by a wild elephant in Valparai. Locals and workers of the neighbourhood in distress.


Coimbatore: Jayamani (54) was a worker at the Nalla Kaathu Estate in Valparai, Coimbatore.

As a part of her routine along with fellow workers, Jayamani was involved in plucking fine tea leaves in the estate at the forest area 44 in Valparai.



During that time a wild elephant is said to have emerged from the forest area and hit Jayamani from the back. Jayamani who fell down was then stomped on by the elephant where she died on the spot.

The workers who were working near here fled from the area to inform the forest authorities. Later the forest officials arrived at the scene and diverted the elephant back to the forest. They later helped to retrieve Jayamani's body and then took it to the Valparai government hospital for an autopsy.

This incident of a wild elephant entering an estate has created panic to the residents and workers of the area.

Post this incident, locals of the areas have requested the forest officials to increase their patrolling near the village areas and to protect them by sending wild elephants deep into the forest area.

Jayamani's unexpected death has saddened the entire neighborhood.
