Coimbatore: Public including women indulged in dharna protest at the District Collectorate's entrance against TASMAC shop in Tirupur. Steps have been taken to set up a new TASMAC store in Pudupalayam andVenkamedu under Avinashi taluk of Tirupur district when already there are TASMAC shops operating there.
The people have repeatedly petitioned and protested on behalf of the public and no action has been taken. The public, including women, sat with their children at the entrance of the District Collector's Office and raisedslogans demanding the immediate removal of the newly open government liquor store for the safety of the public and women.
Police who arrived immediately negotiated with the public and allowed few of them to meet the district collector to file the petition. Following this the public let go of the protest and dispersed. They sad a series of protests would take place if the district collector did not accept their request and remove the liquor store.
