People's Grama Sabha meeting is being held on behalf of DMK. As a part of this, DMK Ward council meetings are held in Coimbatore on behalf of the ward. The Coimbatore Metropolitan Police has refused permission for this and the people are arrested for holding village council meetings.
In this situation, the DMK condemned the Metropolitan Police for not allowing people to hold village council meetings. On behalf of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's Office today staged a sit-in protest.
DMK MLA Karthik, who led a procession from Anna Silai was stopped by police in front of Red Cross.
Police set up two layers of barricades in front of the Red Cross to stop the DMK.
Then there was a tussle between the police and the DMK.
DMK accused the police of denying permission only to those who allow meetings held in violation of the rules. Following this, former DMK minister Pongalur Palanichamy, who was involved in the struggle, joined the sit in.
Legislator Karthik and More than 600 DMK workers, including district secretaries, were arrested. A tense situation prevailed for more than half an hour in front of the Red Cross due to the protest.
