Till today more than 7,00,000 tax payers filed their returns at Chief Commissioner of Income tax office, Coimbatore
Coimbatore: As the last day for filing the tax returns to the taxpayers for those who don't require accounts audited is fastly nearing, till today more than 70% taxpayers who comes under the jurisdiction of Chief commissioner of income tax office at Coimbatore have filed their returns.
There are totally 8 districts which come under the jurisdiction of The Chief Commissioner of Income tax office at Coimbatore. There are two types of taxpayers namely those who are not required to get their accounts audited and the taxpayers who are required to get their accounts audited.
Usually each year the first category tax payers will be filing their returns during July and The second category tax payers would be filing their returns during September. This year due to the 'Covid-19' outbreak, tax payers belonging to both the categories have been given a time limit till December 31(for those who don't require accounts audited) and January 31(those who need accounts audited). Previously the total number of tax Assessees at Coimbatore Chief Commissioner office was 7.5 lakhs. Presently the number has been increased to 10 lakhs. As the last date for filing the returns is fastly approaching, as on today more than 70% of the taxpayers have filed their returns.
Sources from the Income tax office said, "Out of total tax payers, 97% of them file their returns only through online. But still Considering the welfare of those who need assistance in filing their returns may use the services at a nominal charge to the 'Tax Return Preparer' services provided at the 'ASK' HELP DESKfunctioning inside the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax office at Coimbatore. As of today's situation, out of6.5 crores taxpayers across the nation, more than 4 crore tax payers have filed their returns. As far as the Coimbatore office(covers 8 districts) out of the total 10 lakh taxpayers, more than 70% of them have filed their returns till today.
At Coimbatore office today, more than 60 tax payers came in person and availed the 'Tax Return Preparer Services' provided at the office situated at Race course."
