With recent hike in crime rates in the city since November, the police has planned to add more police officials to work the night shift. The crime rates have beenincreased in places like Racecourse, Singanallur, Selvapuram, Puliyakulam, Avinash Road etc.
Robbers recently tend to attack their targets while asking for water or while their alone. 40 sovereign of gold jewels along with ₹4 lakhs have been stolen from places like Saravanampatti, Chinnavedampatti, Kovilpalayam in the last 15 days. Locals have asked police department to increase patrolling during the night at residential areas.
A police officialsaid that "Last 20 days the police department have increased the strength of the patrol unit by adding 50 plus armed policemen to the team." He also said that strangers who are lurking around in the night without proper reason are being investigated. The police department have recently received information that robbers from other cities have entered Coimbatore and are lurking around the city noting down places to rob. The police are also planning to analyse finger prints found at old crimes scenes to find a match. The police official also said that the police department is planning to install CCTV surveillance cameras at more places.
