Demolishing of all 2300 houses at Muthannankulam bund completed - Corporation Officials
Coimbatore: As part of the smart city project, the City Corporation soon would commence dredging works at Muthannan Kulam and reclaim the encroached 40 acres of the water spread area, as all 2300 houses and shops have been demolished, official sources from the Corporation confirmed.
Out of of the total 190 acres of Muthannan kulam, 40 acres of water spread area were encroached by people for over decades. Since, June the City Corporation along with the Slum Clearance board commenced demolishing the encroachments. The people living in the encroached lands were given alternate housing at Keeranatham, Malumichampatti, Ukkadam, Kuniamuthur and Vellalore.
In the first pahse close to 1000 were demolished and later the remaining houses and temples were also demolished amid police security. The officials have confirmed that atlast almost all 2300 houses, barring a few party and trade union offices and a temple have been demolished.
Amid tight security, in the last few days, the corporation officials have been demolishing the vacant houses using JCB machines.Thus far, 2300 houses have been demolished and the remaining include 5 temples and 2 halls, will be demolished shortly, an official from CCMC told.
