More than 30 houses were buried in the mud during a landslide during the monsoon last year in the Nagaruthu tribal village next to Pollachi in which a girl died.
As the Northeast monsoon is about to start, the Pollachi Fire Department gave a demonstration on the disaster relief operations in Nagaruthu village yesterday. Personnel from Oothukalvaai fire station conducted a demonstration on rescuing the drowning victims.
The event was attended by a team of 8 firefighters, forest department officials and public. Pollachi Fire Station Officer Purushothaman said, "Tribals were briefed on how to escape from natural disasters such as floods and landslides with things such as empty plastic cans, thermocol and lorry tyre tubes."
He said, a group of 20 tribal youngsters living here have been trained on rescue operations.
