Coimbatore: Tribals petition to Pollachi Collector to provide drinking water to residential areas near Pollachi.

More than 60 families have traditionally lived in the Anaimalai Nellithurai-Mannam tribal settlement near Pollachi. As there is no drinking water pipeline here, a borewell has been set up and water from the well is being used as drinking water.

Mothers in the area say that children and adults are suffering from various infectious diseases due to unhygienic drinking water and they could not even cook due to water pollution. The tribals also said that they had to travel three kilometers to fetch water from the river and no action has been taken after informing the authorities about this.

The tribals met Sub-Collector Vaithiyanathan at his office and filed a petition in the hope that their request will be fulfilled.
