Tirupur: The Chief Justice of the Chennai High Court has ordered that the newly constructed Tirupur District Combined Court Complex be brought into public use.

The District Sessions Court was operational in Tirupur only six year after the district was formed. However, there is no infrastructure, including appropriate buildings and it is operating in a narrow building, where a hosiery unit was earlier functioning.

The foundation stone laying ceremony took place in July 2018 last year following a series of calls for the establishment of a combined court complex. Behind the Collector's Office in Tirupur, 10 acres of land was allotted for the purpose. An integrated court complex at a cost of Rs 37 crore is planned.

The court building is valued at Rs 37 crore and covers an area of 1 lakh, 66 thousand, 441 sq.ft. and a total of eight courts including three District Courts, a Sessions Court, two additional District Courts, Primary Criminal Court and four JM Courts will be functioning.

There are lifts in eight places and stairs in eight places for the convenience of commuters. A judges' chamber, staff room, post office, registration room; chief secretary's room, store room, court office; public prosecutor's room, police waiting room and a lock-up will be in place. Special features like surveillance cameras, PA system, fire prevention equipment, RO drinking water, solar power and intercom will be there. The construction is now nearing completion.

Chief Justice of the Chennai High Court Amareshwar Pratap Sahi conducted a surprise inspection of the building today. He ordered District Judge Alli to complete the construction work quickly and bring it into operation.
