Coimbatore: Vijay Sethupathi pulls out of Muttiah Muralidharan's biopic '800' at spinner's request
Coimbatore: Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan’s upcoming biopic 800 has landed into more trouble as Vijay Sethupathi, who was supposed to play Muralitharan’s on-screen character, has pulled out of the movie after facing severe backlash for having signed the film.
The move comes after Muralitharan himself had asked the actor to pull out of the movie as doing the film would harm his career going forward.
Vijay Sethupathi took to his Twitter account on Monday and shared the spinner's statement on his social media handle.
Earlier Muthiah Muralidaran shared a statement requesting Vijay Sethupathi to pull out of the film since he has been receiving hostility for signing the film.
Part of the statement read, "I am releasing this statement since there is a lot of controversy in Tamil Nadu around my biopic 800. I am aware of the flak Vijay Sethuapthi has been receiving for signing my biopic. There are people who have a wrong understanding of my views who are behind Vijay Sethupathi. I don’t want one of the best actors in Tamil Nadu to go through this. Also, fearing the consequences Vijay Sethupathi could face for signing the film in the future, I request him to opt out of the film."
