The Nilgiris: Badagas recognized as indigenous tribes by UNESCO

The Nilgiris: Badagas are recognized as indigenous tribes by UNESCO as they follow traditional agriculture and culture and also wear traditional dresses. While only 6% of the world's population lives as indigenous people, they are responsible for protecting 80 percent of the world's forests and natural resources.

The organization works with 142 countries to conserve natural resources, mountains and their culture in the mountains. It is customary for the International Federation of Mountains (UNESCO) to recognize those who live in 80% of the wilderness, with traditional agricultural culture, clothing, music and dance as indigenous citizens.

Its purpose is to protect people who live in harmony with nature and live to protect nature, rivers and wildlife. UNESCO has offered to protect the indigenous people through the International Union for Conservation of Mountains.

On that basis, UNESCO has declared the Badaga in Nilgiris as a indigenous as they protect natural resources, traditional agricultural practices, culture, and traditional music and dance. Members of the Badaga community have expressed happiness about the recognition.
