The Nilgiris: 300 firefighters on the ready for rescue operations ahead of Northeast monsoons: Ooty Fire station officer Ravikumar
The Nilgiris: Ooty Fire station officer Ravikumar informed that 300 firefighters are on the ready for rescue operations ahead of North-East monsoons in the Nilgiris District.

The impact of the Northeast monsoon is generally higher in Coonoor and Kotagiri. Firefighters are on standby 24 hours a day to deal with this. It has been decided to call firefighters from the other districts, including Coimbatore, whenever needed, as there are currently only 57 people on duty while there should be 100 across the district.

Under the circumstances, around 50 to 70 volunteers have been trained to work in the four fire stations in the Nilgiris district. Ooty Fire Station officials said all of them have been trained on what to do in times of floods and disaster.
