At that time, while passing near the Kottur Road bridge, six persons in a car attacked Shanthakumar, loaded him in the car, tied his eyes, hands and feet and took him to a farm in Thamaraikulam near Pollachi and demanded Rs 1 crore at knife point..
When Shanthakumar refused to pay him, the kidnappers assaulted him, took him in the car and pushed him on the roadside near Senrayanpalayam. An injured Shanthakumar managed to reach Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment. After receiving treatment, he lodged a complaint about the incident at the Pollachi East Police Station yesterday morning.
He mentioned in the complaint that six people, including former DMK councilor of Pollachi municipality Kamalakkannan, had abducted him in a car and threatened him with a knife and demanded Rs 1 crore.
After receiving his complaint, the police registered a case and set up a team to search for the kidnappers. Meanwhile, Police received information that four persons, including Kamalakkannan, were hiding near Mothirapuram area near Pollachi this afternoon.

Following this, Police rushed to the spot and arrested four persons, including Kamalakkannan, and confiscated their car and two-wheeler.

Following this, DMK executive Kamalakkannan (51), Naveen Kumar (27) of Pollachi Kamatchi Nagar area, Stalin (30) of Kannapan Nagar and Johnson (26) of Gandhipuram area were booked and produced in Pollachi court after which they were imprisoned.
