After being treated at a private hospital in Chennai for two weeks, his condition worsened for a few days. In this condition, he died today without responding to treatment.
"I am not able to believe that the treasurer of AMMK and my dear friend Vetrivel has passed away. Extreme agony and unspeakable grief choke my throat," said AIADMK General Secretary TTV Dinakaran in a statement of condolence that he released.
"He was a beloved of Puratchithalaivi Amma and Thiyakathalaivi Chinnamma. He loved me to no end. He was known for his open statements. He was true to the party till his demise saying that 'I will stand by the side of sacrifice, the side of truth, no matter what happens.' He stood with us on the field as a commander in the holy war we are waging against treason.
Mr. Vetrivel's demise is an irreparable loss to the party and to me personally. I am left with no words to comfort his family. The name 'Vetrivel' will always remain in the journey towards our goal. I want his soul to rest in the shadow of the Almighty's holy feet," he lamented.
