Coimbatore: Ahead of Ayudha pooja the State Transport Corporation has planned to run 600 more buses for the benefit of the public.
Coimbatore Divisional Transport Department officials said that an additional 600 buses will be operated in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Nilgiris districts from the 22nd of this month. A total of 1,020 buses were operated in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and Nilgiris districts under the Coimbatore division when the lockdown relaxations allowed for public transport.
An additional 300 buses have been operated in the Coimbatore route since last August, following an increase in the number of passengers. There are currently 1,320 State Transport Corporation buses operating in the city. Due to Ayudha Puja on the 25th, additional buses are to be operated for the convenience of the passengers.
A transport official from Coimbatore Division said, "Out of a total of 2,641 buses in 4 districts in the Coimbatore division, 1,320 buses are currently operating. As Saraswati Puja, Ayudha Puja and muhurtham days are approaching, an additional 600 buses will ply from Coimbatore on the 22nd. Buses to Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Karur, Tuticorin and Chennai will be increased according to the number of passengers."
