K V Karthik unanimously elected as President of 'SIEMA'

Coimbatore: The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association, 'SIEMA', 67th Annual General meeting was held today.

K.V.Karthik, Managing Director of Deccan Industries, was unanimously elected as the 21st President of 'SIEMA.' V.Krishnakumar, past president from Aquasub Engineering, handed over the presidentship to Karthik.

Newly elected president Karthik, is the son of Er.K.K.Veluchamy- a well revered technocrat in pumpset industry and has more than 20 years’ experience in pumpset industry. He is an engineering graduate from MIT, Pune and holds a masters in engineering from Sheffield University, U.K.

Vignesh of Ellen Pumps, Mithun Ramdass of Mahendra Pumps and Ma.Sendilkumar - founder Supertec Industries - were elected Vice Presidents.

Speaking after the election, Karthik said, "We will focus on improving the global share of our pumps through collaborative efforts. Together, as a team, we will take the steps required to ensure that SIEMA remains the most recognizable, relevant and impactful association of pumpset manufacturers”.

“The current value Indian Pump Industry is rupees 16,000 crores, which is shared equally by agricultural, domestic pumps on one side and utility, industrial application pumps on the other side. SIEMA requests that the utility and industrial application pumps be also brought under ISI marking and star rating, to achieve the expected savings in energy from pumps”. He said.

“The solar power pumping program of the government has not taken off in the expected way, we at SIEMA have communicated to the government the changes required in the policy to make the program successful”. he added.

“SIEMA will be contributing to the growth by being a significant bridge between the industry and government” he assured.

V.Krishnakumar, the outgoing president said that with COVID disturbing the world trade in a terrible way, the pump industry has been able to recoup and survive with the available resources. SIEMA took proactive steps in representing to the government on the difficulties faced by the pump manufacturers due to lockdown and was instrumental in getting the pumpsets considered as an essential agricultural implement. He thanked the central and state governments for their continual support to the pump industry.
