He is married to Sheeba and has a son and a daughter. Suresh Raja's wife left with her daughter due to a disagreement two years ago. Son Sanjay is being raised by his aunts Uma and Rita and is in Std Seven.
Suresh Raja, who was working as a driver in Tirupur district, was arrested and jailed in a theft case last June. Suresh Raja was arrested and jailed by the Race Course police in another theft case that evening after his bail was completed on September 23. It is said that Suresh Raja tried to commit suicide by hanging himself in jail yesterday. Doctors said he had already died when the Prison Department personnel rescued him and took him to Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment. Following this, they informed Suresh Raja's relatives of his death. Under the circumstances, his relatives have accused that Suresh Raja was beaten to death.
Jail authorities called his aunt and Rita yesterday afternoon and told that Suresh Raja had committed suicide while shortly before that they informed he was admitted to the Government Hospital due to illness. Suresh, who was released on bail on September 23, was arrested at the Peelamedu police station that evening on a charge of theft and was remanded in custody. His mobile was later switched off.His relatives say that Suresh Raja's death is a suspicious one and requested that steps be taken to conduct a proper enquiry into the matter.
Following this, Suresh Raja's relatives indulged in road roko in front of the District Collector's Office and caused a stir as they demanded a fair trial and justice. They dispersed after being assured of action.
