About 80 percent of them are interested in traveling by Nilgiri Mountain Railway. It is especially because from Mettupalayam to Ooty, there are 32 long bridges, more than 40 small bridges and more than 16 caves.
Transport from Coonoor to Mettupalayam was started in 1899 and rail services from Coonoor to Ooty was started on October 15, 1908. Today marks the completion of the 111th year and the beginning of 112 year. The event was celebrated with the operation of a special steam locomotive train from Coonoor to Ooty.
Nilgiris District Collector Innocent Divya and Founder of the Mountain Railway Safety Trust Nataraj cut a cake to celebrate the Mountain Railway Day and presented bouquets to the railway staff.
