He worked as a conductor in the State Transport Corporation. He currently owns and operates a grocery store in the same area. Yesterday morning he went on his bike to withdraw money at a bank in the New Scheme Road area.
He withdrew Rs 27,000 from the bank, rolled it up in a cloth bag and left the bank. Unidentified young menwho saw Sundarajan withdrawing money from the bank came near him and engaged in a conversation. Then they sprayed ink on his back and said that there was something on his shirt.
Believing this, Soundarajan was checking his shirt. Another young man pretended to help by pouring water on it as if to wash it off. Taking advantage of this opportunity, his partner stole the money from a cloth bag and the two fled from there. After a while, Soundarajan was shocked to find that the money in his bag had been stolen.
Sounderajan lodged a complaint at the Mahalingapuram police station after he came to know that the youngsters had stolen money by pretending to help. Police have registered a case and are searching for the unidentified men who stole the money. They are examining the CCTV camera footage from the area.
