Coimbatore: A cow was killed in a leopard attack in Valparai.
A cow owned by Ramar from Kamarajar Nagar was grazing in a tea plantation nearby. When the cow was on its way back home around 6 pm yesterday, a leopard hiding in a bush ambushed it.
The cow was killed on the spot. Hearing the screams of the cow, the neighbors immediately shouted and chased the leopard away. This caused a stir in the area.
The forest department was immediately notified. The forest officials inspected the area and confirmed the movement of the leopard. The area which is covered with thick bushes has become an easy hunting ground for leopards to hide and attack animals such as cows and dogs, so the people in the area have demanded the overgrowth be removed and the leopard be captured using a cage.
