Leaving the wholesale traders and households teary-eyed, the price of small onions has doubled at Pollachi market. Small Onions from various districts of Tamil Nadu are traded at the Pollachi market. In a usual scenario, a major portion of the stock would be bought directly by Kerala traders at competitive prices.
Until last month, due to high supply of small onions from various districts in Tamil Nadu including Tirupur, Dindigul and Erode, per kg was sold for only Rs. 30. However, at present, as the supply had taken a hit, supply of small onions to the Pollachi market has drastically reduced.

The price of small onions has more than doubled. As of yesterday, traders were selling at a wholesale price of Rs 70 to Rs 75 per kg, told traders at Pollachi market.
