Housing and Urban Development Department on Tuesday has released a GO that states that, "The existing delegation of power to local bodies (except Chennai) for approval of building plan is 7,000 sq. ft and 8 dwelling units not exceeding 12 meters in height and upto stilt + 3 floors or ground + 2 floors.
The Directorate of Town and Country Planning in a letter has mentioned Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India(CREDAI) has requested an increase in power delegation to local bodies. Based on the request, the Directorate of Town and Country planning has requested the government to increase the present delegation of powers to local bodies.
In the context of simplification, the planning permission for residential buildings has been restructured as follows:Building plan for residential use of total built up area upto 10,000 sq. ft.and 8 dwelling units not exceeding 12 meters in height and upto stilt + 3 floors or ground + 2 floors. However, per the government order, the existing delegation of powers for commercial buildings shall be continued, it is said.
Kongu Global Forum (KGF) Director,D. Nanda Kumar said, "We wholeheartedly welcome this order. Industrialists have been requesting for this increase of powers for a long time. Now the request has been fulfilled."
