Five arrested in connection with brutal murder of elderly woman and robbery thereafter: 30 soverigns of jewellery recovered
Coimbatore: Dhanalakshmi (62), an old woman from Coimbatore Vysial Street Kempatti Colony was stabbed to death a few days ago.
Her murder caused a stir as she had a large amount of property. Police, who registered a case in connection with the murder, formed four squads to search for the culprits.

Police arrested 5 persons involved in the incident and confiscated 30 sovereigns of jewellery, an auto, a car and a two-wheeler from them.

According to police, Latha (a) Rani, wife of Ravi, a resident of Fourth Street, Kempatti colony has become acquainted with Dhanalakshmi when she went to buy groceries. Also Dhanalakshmi had done small favors for Latha, who later came to know that Dhanalakshmi had a lot of money and jewelry. She informed this to her brother Tilak.
Tilak, who works in a workshop and is said to be in a lot of debt, plotted to rob Dhanalakshmi's house. Along with his sisters Mala and Latha and his friends Selvam, Manojkumar and Sathyaseelan, who live in Peelamedu. He and his friends had been surveying Dhanalakshmi's house for a month. At around 9 pm on the day of the incident, Thilak went to Dhanalakshmi's house with his friend Selvam.
Since Dhanalakshmi knew Thilak, she allowed both of them into her house. Then, according to their plan, they gave a poisoned dessert to Dhanalakshmi who ate it and felt dizzy in a few minutes. Suspecting that something was amiss, she started shouting. Enraged by this, Thilak and Selvam hit Dhanalakshmi on the head causing her to die.
The dup then robbed 70 sovereigns of gold jewellery and fled. They later sold the jewels and divided the money into five shares. The police investigation revealed that Latha's family pretended to not be no involved in the incident. Following this, the police arrested five people, produced them in court and remanded them into custody.
