Coimbatore: Farmers allege inconvenience due to bridge work taking place at various places in Coimbatore.
Bridge construction is underway at Ukkadam, Avarampalayam, Trichy Road and Kavundampalayam. Farmers complain that they are affected when they transport milk, vegetables, etc., due to overcrowding in various parts of the city.
Tamil Nadu Farmers Association District President S. Palanisamy said, "Livestock farmers in Coimbatore have been hit hard by the overcrowding due to the traffic congestion caused by bridge constructions. Farmers who carry milk are not able to take it on time. Vegetable farmers and farmers who work for daily wages are stuck everyday due to the traffic congestion. There is also a delay in the arrival of animal feed."
He also added that farmers from Sulur, Sultanpet, Karamadai, Mettupalayam and Thondamuthur, who come to trade in urban areas find that greens and vegetables wither as they are unable to travel fast. They have requested that the government should expedite the construction work.
