Four months after planting, farmers are busy harvesting it this month. The purchase of paddy at the Anaimalai Regulated Market started yesterday with the farmers setting the per quintal price of thin variety paddy at Rs. 1950 and that of the bulky variety at Rs. 1918.
Under the circumstances, Pollachi farmers have demanded that the Tamil Nadu government should increase the base price of paddy similar to Kerala. In Kerala, a quintal of paddy costs Rs. 2600. The farmers also said that they are happy that a paddy procurement centre has been set up in Anaimalai.
