Most of the brick kilns are operating in the areas adjoining the Western Ghats such as Thadagam, Chinna Thadagam, Somayampalayam, and No. 24 Veerapandi. Not only workers from Tamil Nadu but also North Indian labourers are working in these brick kilns.
Saridul Islam (20) from Assam, who is working in ARS chamber went to the forest area to relieve himself last night.
He was attacked by a lone wild elephant in the forest. He suffered a fracture below the left knee. The 108 ambulance service was immediately informed and first aid was given. He was rushed to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment but succumbed to his injuries. The Forest Department is investigating the incident.
