Coimbatore: Investigating with the help of CCTV camera footage, Annur Police have arrested a man for stealing a cell phone at the bus stand there.
In the first phase, CCTV cameras were installed at more than 30 places in the areas under the Annur police station in Coimbatore district with the help of public contributions.
On October 10, Praveen Kumar, a resident of Sirumugai, lodged a complaint at the Annur police station that a mobile phone worth Rs.15,000 was stolen from him.
Following this, Police perused the CCTV camera recorded footage from the Annur bus stand which revealed the culprit was Siva (A) Murugesh who was seen picking the cell phone from Praveen Kumar's pocket, getting out of the bus and boarding a friend's two wheeler.
Following this, he was arrested by the Annur police. CCTV set up with the participation of the public in Annur. It is noteworthy that this is the first case investigated through the CCTV set in Annur bus stand and the public have contributed towards the installation of the cameras
Meanwhile, police advised that the public should help with crime prevention and solving by installing CCTV cameras at their homes and offices.
