Pollachi: The Anamalai Police in Pollachi, Coimbatore district have arrested a man from Cuddalore who allegedly cheated Rs 7.80 lakh from a yarn merchant in Salem in the pretext of helping him procure gold bars at cheap price.
Pollachi: The Anamalai Police in Pollachi, Coimbatore district have arrested a man from Cuddalore who allegedly cheated Rs 7.80 lakh from a yarn merchant in Salem in the pretext of helping him procure gold bars at cheap price.
Arokiyasamy (56) from Salem district is a yarn merchant. Parthasarathy (48) of Cuddalore district had reportedly contacted Arokiasamy and offered him to buy gold bars at discounted price. Trusting his words, the yarn merchant drove down to Ambarambalayam area near Anaimalai to finish the deal.
Parthasarathi had received Rs 7.80 lakh from him and allegedly given it to a gang who deal in gold bars. Shortly, the gang had absconded and were untraceable.
As Arokiasamy suspected a foul play, he lodged a complaint at the Pollachi West Police Station. After preliminary investigation, the police handed over the case to Anaimalai police for futher investigation.
Following which, the Anaimalai police arrested and interrogated Parthasarathy and confirmed he had received Rs.7.80 lakh and not returned the money nor the gold bars.
Subsequently, the Anaimalai police registered a case against him and produced him before the Pollachi Criminal Court No 1 and remanded him in custody. The police are in search of seven others of the gang who absconded with the money.
