The Nilgiris: Alleging that there are no buyers for green tea leaf for over 10 days, the Nakkubetta Farmers Welfare Association staged a protest in Kotagiri on Saturday.
They alleged that than 20 tea factories in the Kotagiri area have stopped buying green tea leaf from farmers against the Tea Board's order to purchase leaves at Minimum Sale Price (MSP) of Rs 30.03 per kg.
Citing various reasons, the protesting farmers alleged that many factories have refused to buy green tea from them.
During the demonstration, they stressed that the Tea Board should immediately intervene in the issue and provide them redressal. They lamented that if the situation prolongs any further, their livelihood would be gravely affected.
They also warned to intensify the protest by hoisting black flags in the houses, if the issue is not resolved.
