Coimbatore: A 36-year-old pregnant woman from Tirupur district was diagnosed with coronavirus a few days ago and was admitted to the ESI hospital in Coimbatore.
A scan carried out there revealed a large tumor measuring 25 × 27 cm in the uterus. Subsequently, with the safety of the baby in mind, a caesarean section was done to deliver the bay.
ESI Hospital Dean Nirmala said, “The foetus does not develop well when there are such tumors in the uterus, but, in this case, the baby was. Such a tumor is more likely to affect the delivery. Considering the safety of the baby, the obstetrics team, headed by Dr. Geetha, decided to operate on the woman and the baby was safely taken out. The baby weighed 2.8 kg and is healthy. Doctors have successfully performed this complex surgery."
