Coimbatore: CPI(M) has demanded that the Tamil Nadu government appeal against the acquittal of a 12-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Dindigul.
A statement issued by CPI(M) reads, "A 12-year-old girl from a barber community at Kurumbapatti in Dindigul district was sexually abused and murdered. A protest was held in Dindigul on behalf of All India Democratic Women's Association condemning the atrocity and the culprit was arrested after this.
But, the court has acquitted the man accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl and electrocuting her, on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence.
One of the 35 witnesses questioned in court testified that he saw the perpetrator come out of the girl's house. Even after this, the court acquitted him, which is shocking and painful.
Therefore, the State Executive Committee of the Marxist Communist Party urges the State of Tamil Nadu to appeal in this case and ensure that the perpetrators are given due punishment."
